Pedal brakes

Pedal brakes are used to gently aerate and deaerate the dual-circuit brake system of a motor vehicle and also to control trailer control valves (if fitted).

There are a number of variations, for example with a so-called last/leer valve, i.e. with automatic regulation of the front axle pressure depending on the pressure in the rear axle circuit regulated by an automatic load regulator (AZR). Another design is contains electric control of a third brake, eg. that of a retarder. Pedal brakes are supplied with or without a foot plate.

Modern vehicles with EBS systems use a EBS pedal brake.
